Market position

HDI Seguros S.A., Chile (HDI/CL) was established as a state-owned company named Instituto de Seguros del Estado in 1953, in order to cover fire risks of semi nationalized institutions and the state of Chile. After the company was converted into a stock company and then privatized, HDI-Gerling International Holding AG took over the shares in July 2008.

HDI/CL has developed into an advanced enterprise with lines of business for private individuals and small and medium-sized companies through cooperation with
brokers and in-house channels (retailers). HDI/CL now has a network of 800 insurance brokers. The most important products are home owners, personal accident, motor insurance, as well as marine and fire insurance for small and medium-sized companies. The company currently has 168 employees distributed over six branch offices in the major cities Iquique, Antofagasta, La Serena, Viña del Mar, Concepción and Temuco, as well as two offices in the capital of Santiago.

1953
Foundation as a state-owned company named Instituto de Seguros del Estado (ISE Chile), in order to cover fire risks of semi nationalized institutions and the state of Chile.

1990
Reorganisation as stock company and privatisation through take over on the part of Les Mutuelles Du Mans Assurances.

2001
Entry of La Sociedad de Inversiones Notre Dame S.A. as shareholder (30%).

2003
Notre Dame increases its participation to 97.8%.

2008
Change of shareholder to HDI-Gerling International Holding AG.

2009
Renamed HDI Seguros S.A.

2011
From 2011 onwards HDI-Gerling International AG is trading as Talanx International AG.
